Lefebvre Sarrut launches European hackathon on generative AI applied to the legal sector with Microsoft

Paris La Défense, 17 October 2023

Lefebvre Sarrut, the European leader in legal and tax knowledge, announces that Microsoft becomes the sponsor of its LightSpeed Hackathon, the first initiative of its kind in the legal sector. The hackathon will take place simultaneously in Paris, Madrid, Milan, The Hague, Leuven, and Bonn on October 18th, 19th, and 20th. Comprised of students, legal professionals, and Lefebvre Sarrut employees, the hackathon aims to tackle three challenges using the technological power of generative artificial intelligence combined with Lefebvre Sarrut’s content.

These three challenges are:

  • Enabling knowledge for companies and counsels (accountants, notaries, lawyers)
  • Revolutionizing legal writing
  • Improving access to justice.

The various brands under Lefebvre Sarrut (Lefebvre Dalloz, Sdu, Lefebvre, Larcier Intersentia, Giuffrè Francis Lefebvre and Stollfuss) will provide participants with a wide range of legal and tax content. With Microsoft as the sponsor of the hackathon, participants will have the opportunity to develop solutions powered by Azure OpenAI Service. They will benefit from the most advanced AI capabilities to enhance their innovations and unlock their creativity. This represents the dreamed playground for any tech savvy willing to explore the use of Generative AI applied to legal matters.

LightSpeed Hackathon participants will also receive support from Legal Hackers, an international collective of legal professionals promoting legal innovation through a design-focused approach. Over 250 people have already registered to participate in this initiative across the six cities where the hackathon will take place.

Olivier Campenon, CEO of Lefebvre Sarrut, states that “Innovation is a key driver for the progress and evolution of our group. We are committed to helping and supporting our clients stay at the forefront of their field, and, to that end, we develop initiatives like the LightSpeed hackathon, which collectively and collaboratively drive the European legal sector. These activities serve as a catalyst for us to lead the development and effective implementation of generative artificial intelligence for the benefit of our clients.”

All teams at the European level will compete on an equal playing field in terms of time and resources to present their proposals. At the local level, a jury composed of executives from each country, a legal professional, and a member of the local Legal Hackers chapter, will select the national-winning team and project on the evening of October 20th. Subsequently, on November 6th, the six winning projects will be presented to an international jury, which will determine the winning project for the first edition of the LightSpeed hackathon, with an additional prize of $5,000 in addition to the $2,500 each winning local team will receive.
